March 19 2025 RHS band Concert
Recording and reinforcement for a 2 hour concert with a mix of classical and jazz. The reinforcement and recording was comprised of 22 inputs and was mastered in both stereo and surround

This was a large performance put on by the RHS band program, the show had 5 different sets so an easily adaptable recording solution was needed, the mic plot contains a cardioid XY pair situated in the audience in addition to closer instrument, sectional, or soloist mics. After meeting with the client, there were two goals, create an accurate representation of the pieces for rehearsal usage, and create a more mastered track based on the stereo big band era (similar to Sinatra’s Swingin Session).  The Microphones on the Piano, MC, and Soloists were used for live reinforcement and adding more presence to the initial Stereo feed from the audience.
This is an example mic plot from a Pops concert put on by the RHS Performing Arts. Due to cramped stage, getting an accurate and clean recording of all 70 string and brass musicians while still retaining good recording of the 40 person choir was a challenge. To obtain a well isolated recording a combination of Area micing and stereo room micing was used. Above you can see a stereo XY pair placed in the auidence, this served as a phase coherent base for the rest of the recording. The XY pair and stereo wideners positioned along the first rows of the audience suspended 22' in the air served as a majority of the recordings makeup. Based on the musical selection 7 close mics were placed throughout the stage. 2 positioned in and around percussion for clarity and 2, four feet above the brass sections. PCC 160 boundry mics were used to reinforce the choir live and in the recording.
